"Photographing wildlife has always been a dream and one that not only became a reality in May but an amazing and brilliant experience of a lifetime. Gavin’s vast knowledge and understanding of absolutely everything that lives and breaths in the bush was only matched by his enthusiasm for getting us exactly where we needed to be to photograph all kinds of wildlife at very close quarters, and then passionately impart all that knowledge and understanding… plus a whole lot more! Being up before sun up, out all day in the bush and back after sun down gave us the best opportunity to maximise everyday and moment of our trip in Botswana… our days were simply 12 hours of heart pounding excitement, fun and adventure, which has left me and my fellow photographers wanting more! I cannot recommend Gavin’s safari experience highly enough… you will not be disappointed." .... Sally Edwards, Salisbury, England. 2010
"I recently spent two weeks with Gavin on a bespoke wildlife photography safari with a small group of professional photographers. Gavin's knowledge and enthusiasm of wildlife and the natural world is absolutely phenomenal, we had an amazing and extremely memorable two weeks. From a photography point of view I couldn't have asked for a better guide - Gavin not only found the wildlife but also put us in the optimal position photographically to get the most stunning shots. I would highly recommend Gavin Blair to anyone looking for an amazing safari trip with a difference!" .... Lesley Wood, Warrington, England. 2010
"I have just returned from my second photographic safari with Gavin Blair Safaris, this time to Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, Savuti and the Chobe National Park. As a professional travel and wildlife photographer I was again keen to get 'up close and personal' with the wildlife. On this trip I brought with me a group of four other photographers, all keen to photograph Africa's wildlife. My group were all in awe of the magnificent locations, the lodges, the incredible wildlife and of Gavin's amazing knowledge and ability to get us so close to the wildlife. My group all worked their cameras hard and they
all have some great photographs and incredible memories of their time on safari. We were also privileged to see the Savuti Channel flowing again for the first time in over 30 years. It was great to see all the species new to the Savuti area that the water was attracting to the region. Looking forward to our next safari." .... Steve Allen, York, England. 2010 (after his second safari with us).
"Having just returned from a photographic holiday in Botswana we would like to record our gratitude and appreciation to both Gavin and Marjorie for the major part they played in giving us such a wonderful and unforgettable experience. Their organisation was superb and their knowledge and enthusiasm were surpassed only by their friendly and co-operative attitude and attention to detail. These attributes were applied to every aspect of our trip from flora to birds and mammals and always with a real dedication to the wildlife of Africa. Apart from making the trip so informative, interesting and enjoyable it has introduced us to two new friends whom we hope to see again either in Africa or the UK. Many thanks to both of you." .... David & Peta Kennedy, Reading, England. 2010
"We have just returned home our third safari with Gavin & Marjorie, this time to Namibia. We have not seen a more desolate, arid, hostile yet incredibly beautiful landscape and country. Gavin was at his best, spotting most of the big five and finding the smallest of creatures almost at will. It is always a pleasure to associate with someone with so much passion and enthusiasm for his region and profession. We will be back for number four sooner rather than later, this time for the wild dogs and porcupines!" .... Geoff & Lee Cleghorn, Brisbane, Australia. 2010 (after their third safari with us).
"The safari was a great experience and we had a wonderful time. It was special to see wildlife in their own environment, and a couple of close encounters with elephant and lion will remain with us forever. We thought the whole trip was put together well and the whole experience was certainly enhanced by its exclusive aspect and Gavin's vast knowledge and ability to communicate that. Thanks again for a memorable experience." .... Mark & Rosemary Hopgood, Jindalee, Australia. 2010
2009
"There's just one word, without the pictures, that best describes our family's experience with Gavin Blair Safaris: "WOW!" This once in a lifetime experience, although we'd like to go again now with Gavin and Marjorie, was nothing but shear pleasure and amazement with the sites, animals, birds and wonder of this Botswana safari covering eight days. Every single detail of the trip was organized in a world-class fashion by Marjorie and Gavin without a hitch, and in fact, "pampered" would best describe their customer service orientation. Gavin's truly remarkable knowledge of literally everything we saw and experienced from plants to trees to the terrain in the Chobe, Savuti and Okavango Delta areas to the game, fish, reptiles and birds was explored and explained to us with such command and incredible insight, it simply magnified our learning and added to the beauty of what we were seeing at each step of the journey. And with our three teenagers along for the safari, who can easily get bored without Facebook and video games, Gavin kept their interest and excitement piqued virtually every moment. We had great fun, good laughs and thoroughly enjoyed all of Gavin's safari stories, which only served to embellish the overall adventure for us. All in all, Marjorie and Gavin made us feel like family with them and it's an experience that my wife, three kids and I will cherish for the rest of our lives. After returning and sharing the 1,600 photos we took and our fantastic experience with friends and family, we said to them that if you're going to do a safari don't cut corners to save a few hundred bucks, do it with the ultimate professionals and do it with Gavin Blair Safaris!" ....Peter Schmidt, Blonay, Switzerland. 2009
"We would like to thank you once again for the outstanding safari you have organized for us. We will not forget this journey, especially the highlights like ballooning over the desert, seal in the private boat, thousands of flamingos and seals, welwitschias, animals by the hundreds in Etosha and all the other interesting animals, trees, birds, plants etc. We will certainly get back to you for another memorable trip." ....Karl Meyer, Forch, Switzerland. 2009 (after his 7th safari with us).
"Thank you Gavin and Marjorie for the wonderful time I recently had in Namibia and the Etosha National Park. Your knowledge of the country and its wildlife turned a great holiday into a really fantastic one. To find myself in the middle of the Namib desert standing on the ridge of one of the tallest sand dunes was something I only ever thought happened to other people, and to share this experience with a couple who so obviously love the wild places of Africa and its creatures was a real privilege. Gavin's ability to name in Latin all the many trees and shrubs was simply outstanding, but what can I say when he spots a lion a few kilometres away, drives some minutes down the road and around a bend and there it is, just as he said it would be - incredible! With Gavin Blair Safaris not only do you get a lot of information about the wildlife as well as the time to sit back and enjoy it, but you also get a guided tour of the night sky thrown in at the end of each day. I had such a great time - thank you so much." .... Pamela Withey, Dover, England. 2009 (after her 3rd safari with us).
"Being on a safari with Gavin Blair as your personal guide is a 'mind blowing' experience. You will soon be astounded at his uncanny knack of locating the most elusive bird, or being introduced to that longed for close encounter with all other creatures both great or small. To come across the mighty elephant is one thing, but to spot, for instance, that rare sighting of a Pel's Fishing Owl whilst driving is quite another! Go then with Gavin Blair Safaris, and be enriched by safari experience you won't forget" .... Bill & Betty Dunn, Welling, England. 2009 (after their 10th safari with us).
"As professional travel and wildlife photographers we where looking for a guide who could get us close to the wildlife and in amongst the action. Gavin proved to be a great choice! He has a knack of knowing exactly what we want, and would almost always get us into the best position, with the best angle, lighting and distance without even being asked. His knowledge of the flora and fauna of Southern Africa is no less than encyclopaedic. Anyone interested in seeing more than just 'the big 5', who has say, an interest in the birdlife, for example, would find Gavin has an amazing aptitude for spotting tiny birds off in the distance and then the ability to get you close. We where lucky enough to have a month on safari with Gavin and Marjorie, visiting Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. The whole trip went without a hitch and we got some amazing photographs. Unlike most safaris, where games drives revolve around the meal times at the lodges, with Gavin Blair Safaris you can (if you want) be up and out before it's light and stay out in the bush all day, and only return after dark. The fact that Gavin has his own light aircraft and can fly you into the most remote or inaccessible areas saves so much time. Time you can then spend doing even more game drives. Of all our worldwide travels our safari with Gavin Blair Safaris was by far the best trip we have so far undertaken, we both loved it." .... Steve & Pauline Allen, York, England. 2009
"This was our 6th trip with Gavin and Marjorie, but there are always new sights, sounds and experiences to be had and our month long safari through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia was no exception. There was the inquisitive one year old leopard cub who sat in front of the headlights and looked up over the bonnet at us with his big yellow eyes, the pride of lions strolling past, the nine different animals drinking at one waterhole before they parted to allow the black rhino through, wild dogs out hunting, not to mention all the wonderful different birds we saw and the fabulous experience of driving over the sand dunes. Once again many thanks for another truly memorable safari." Lynn & David Pickles, Bingley, England. 2009 (after their sixth safari with us)
2008
"I always wanted to go to Africa "once" - probably because of my love for animals, at least initially. There are so many safari guides in the travel magazines, but the article for Gavin Blair Safaris was somehow different. After corresponding with Marjorie via e-mail, and finally meeting both Marjorie and Gavin in person when they came to California, I understood why I felt so drawn to them. You might think all safaris are the same but, like anything, it all comes down to relationships and personal attention. My "once" trip became three trips - first to Namibia in 2004, then Botswana and Zimbabwe in 2006 and Zambia in 2008. It starts with the "big animals", which is probably the goal of every first trip, and then the appreciation for the smaller animals, the birds and the plants. And then there are the wonderful people you come across. Gavin and Marjorie have an incredible knowledge about all life in Africa which seems endless and amazing. At the same time, you are also learning about the land and history and you start meeting people who live in Africa - and it all, including Gavin and Marjorie, gets in your heart and never leaves. Gavin is an expert photographer, and his patience with stopping anywhere anytime and helping me get the best picture was endless. Gavin also took lots of pictures with my own camera, and the ones he took of me and the special friend I traveled with on all three trips are the best pictures of us together that we have ever had. I recommend keeping the number down to your party and Gavin and Marjorie, as you will want them all to yourself and your experience will be more personal. You will not be disappointed." .... Evelyn, California, U.S.A. 2008 (after her third safari with us)
"As we sat just a breath away from ten 14-foot giraffes doing a ballet with their necks, my heart was racing and I could hardly catch my breath, I was grateful for extra film so I didn't have to miss one single shot! One of our days included a walking safari. Gavin tracked a pride of eighteen lions that were following a herd of Cape buffalo. I can still feel the thrill of 'sneaking up' on eighteen lions. There were eight in our large group. My parents had been on five safaris with Gavin and Marjorie, for the rest of us, this was our first trip. This was the adventure of a lifetime where my pictures help me to relive the extraordinary experiences that Gavin found in the bush for us. Even after 25 years of guiding new people all of the time, Gavin was just as excited as we were when we gasped at our first elephant and could hardly contain our excitement. Gavin managed to get unbelievable photo opportunities and even helped us with camera settings, which enabled us to get amazing photos. Marjorie is the perfect hostess and her impeccable planning and scheduling made our trip smooth sailing the entire time. Gavin and Marjorie's love of Africa and each other makes a perfect partnership to make each safari an unbelievable experience to treasure forever!" .... Deede and Michael Pecora, Littleton, Colorado, U.S.A. 2008
"Preparing for this trip we had a lot of questions and some apprehensions, but the first time we met Gavin at the airport we began to relax. He took charge of all our needs and then some. Gavin is knowledgeable about the countries we visited, the natural environment and especially the wildlife. We felt safe at all times. We have traveled extensively and this trip was by far the most amazing of them all. We would recommend to anyone traveling with Gavin to add three days to the trip and go to Lake Kariba/Matusadona National Park - we felt as if we were the only people on the earth. Thank you Gavin and Marjorie for a wonderful trip." .... M & G, New York, U.S.A. 2008
"We met Gavin 18 years ago and each of the many safaris we have made with him since has been a sheer joy. On this recent trip we were a group of 8, three generations, ages 21 yrs to 81 yrs. It was the first safari for our daughter, her husband, their three adult children and our oldest grandson's fiancée. Each and every one of our family was thrilled with their first African Adventure. Each day brought something new and the safari was everything we had hoped for. Marjorie's flawless planning provided us with beautiful lodge accommodations and inter-camp transport by Air Blair which was both efficient and fun. I think one of the most important features of having your private guide and transport is the independence it gives you from the strict schedule that the camps adhere to. We were out early and home late - a terrific advantage. Gavin has always had the ability to mesmerize us with his encyclopaedic knowledge of the area and its inhabitants and help us with photographic hints and special photo ops. Marjorie and Gavin are delightful hosts and we treasure our long association and friendship. For us, Africa means Gavin Blair Safaris!" .... Garry and Bettejane Osborn, Littleton, Colorado, U.S.A. (after their fifth safari with us)
"After having a "once in a lifetime" experience with Marjorie and Gavin Blair in the summer of 2006 my husband and I knew we had to return to Africa with them! There was no comparison to Gavin Blair Safaris and the first safari we took in 1994 with a "cookie cutter" safari company. Once we returned home in 2006 we made plans to return to Africa in October of 2008 with Gavin and Marjorie. As our safari grew near we were apprehensive that this trip could compare to our 2006 adventure with lions, cheetahs, leopards... you name it! Well, it was even better... a pair of bat eared foxes with six babies, a lioness walking through our camp, jackal babies in a den, a stampede of Cape buffalo 200 yards from camp which the lions successfully made a kill upon, meerkats, honey badgers... you get the picture! Gavin is a wealth of knowledge with a true love of nature... I never tired of listening to him. Both Gavin and Marjorie really "care" about your experience. Marjorie remembered the smallest details regarding food and drink from our last trip which was remarkable! The Blair's customized our trip based on what we wanted to see and do, not based on what was convenient for them... a rare find these days! We are now back home in Florida and I find myself frequently day dreaming about the sights, sounds (lions roaring throughout the night), and smells (wild sage) we experienced in Africa. It seems like a dream but our photographs prove it was real. Thank you Gavin and Marjorie!!!!" .... Lynne and Michael Troitino, Orlando, Florida, U.S.A. 2008 (after their second safari with us)
"Most that sign up for a safari do so to maximize the animal encounters and that is exactly what you will do with Gavin Blair Safaris. Up at 5 am each day, grab your clothes, a breakfast bar and a mug of tea or coffee, jump into the land cruiser and Gavin will find the animals. Your compatriots with other companies will not likely be out of bed yet or have finished with their multi-course breakfast and you will have already taken dozens of photos and/or frames of video of the wildlife before others have left their camp. This was our second safari with Gavin and Marjorie Blair and was a continuation of the phenomenal encounters we experienced on the first one. Gavin again demonstrated why he is the best guide out there. The man thinks like, communicates with and understands the wildlife. He knows where to find them, what they will do next, where they will go and how best to photograph them. Marjorie's organizational and culinary skills are amazing to behold and enjoy. Our only disappointment was that we eventually had to return home." .... Bob & Sherri Hill, Orlando, Florida, U.S.A. 2008 (after their second safari with us)
"At the end of this trip, our feeling is that you, Gavin, are the king of elephants. No one shows elephants like you do. And leopards too. And birds, but especially the elephants. Beautiful! So, once again thank you for all your work, time and care with us. We had a wonderful time with you and have some very special memories of our trip with you in Botswana." .... Don & Mary Jane Gutoski, Mossley, Canada. 2008 (after their second safari with us)
"I had heard of Gavin and Marjorie's reputation for organising and running excellent safaris from my 4 American friends. The journey from Victoria Falls to Maun with three 3 night camps on the Chobe River, at Savuti and then the Khwai River confirmed what I had heard. The game sightings were exceptionally good and Gavin was as informative as he was intuitive in seeking out the most interesting wild life." .... Michael Edmonds, Marlborough, England. 2008
"For our second safari with Gavin and Marjorie we had high expectations, because we remembered all the beautiful moments of our first one in 2005. We weren't disappointed: again it was a great adventure to follow wild dogs and seeing two lions kill warthog piglets! For the first time in Zambia we discovered that Kafue has the same potential as Botswana. Again, thanks to the excellent and skilful guiding by Gavin we have enough to tell at the non-existing campfires in Holland!" .... Charlotte and Hans Beiler, The Hague, The Netherlands. 2008 (after their second safari with us)
"We were delighted to receive your newsletter with the recap of our Namibia trip. We had such a wonderful time seeing the birds, animals and insects and viewing the awesome scenery in this magical country, and your patience and ability to point out things we surely would have missed was much appreciated. This was our fourth trip to Africa and it was the best." .... Bern and Gale Kosto, West Hartford, U.S.A. 2008
"To prospective Safari Adventurers: We went on our African journey with family members and friends from around the globe, meeting Gavin in Victoria Falls, and Marjorie in our Chobe campsite. As you might imagine there were many questions before we arrived, and the way in which Marjorie unfailingly dealt with all of our concerns, even as she was managing her current safari from Chobe, or Savuti, or Namibia or wherever was helpful and wonderfully managed from the start. It was all the more so when we were on safari and saw her in action. Totally committed to our needs, and so delighted to have us as her guests. Gavin Blair Safaris had been recommended to us by friends in such a positive way that we were very keen to have our own safari with them also. But were they oversold to us? No way. Gavin's bushcraft and knowledge of animal behaviour, birds, insects, plants and trees meant there was no question unanswered and no opportunities missed. We saw the most amazing zebra migration only because of Gavin's knowledge and commitment to our safari's success. We were the only ones to see them, as all others were in camp "by the clock". Up early and in late making the most of the available light - that's Gavin Blair Safaris. Our choice of Gavin Blair Safaris was made on a recommendation to us. We most sincerely recommend Gavin and Marjorie to you. You will never regret choosing them for your African Adventure" .... Don and Helen Sanderson, Brisbane, Australia. 2008
"Thank you both for this wonderful experience. We chose Gavin and Marjorie for our private safari after much research. We wanted something really special to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect choice. From our first wake up call before dawn until bedtime we were privileged to have Gavin as our pilot and guide. His knowledge of flora and fauna, geography, insects, astronomy, history, myth and legend, and photography, is impressive. He is endlessly enthusiastic and good humored about sharing his knowledge and experience and a pleasure to spend time with. At every sighting he would position the vehicle so that we would have the best lighting for viewing and photos. Our safari started with camping and the set up was comfortable and efficient. Marjorie is charming and a wonder. Delicious, healthy, three course meals cooked over a wood fire! Salads with fresh fruits and vegetables! China and linen and wine. It was a pleasure to get back to camp and wash up while anticipating our supper that evening. Each and every lodge they had chosen for us to stay at was first rate. We couldn't have chosen better ourselves. We only wished that we had more time to spend at each place. Marjorie and Gavin are a perfect team. The only problem with our 'trip of a lifetime' is that now we want to go back!" .... Pat and Doug Cole, Rockport, U.S.A.
"Bill's and my entire experience in Southern Africa was wonderful and almost indescribable. But the highlight was the safari with Gavin and Marjorie. In addition to a whole lot of hard work, Marjorie provides the excellent food, her lovely British sense of order, intense love of elephants and all animals and sweet disposition. Gavin makes it exciting! Having never done this before, we had no idea what to expect but now we understand just how lucky we are to have found Gavin and Marjorie. Gavin is a rare blend of 25 years of experience, extremely knowledgeable naturalist, excellent photographer (THANKS for the lessons!), and natural gregariousness. First out of camp in the morning so that he can read the tracks, he finds the spots that may be overlooked and, except for a lunch and nap break, doesn't cease finding interesting animals, insects, vegetation, and vistas until the last light has faded at night. If you are not a birder before you meet Gavin and Marjorie, you will be. I still can't believe that he spotted that black blob of a leopard when we were hightailing it in the dark for our Savuti camp. Thanks for a truly wonderful experience that we will never forget!" .... Lucy Conley, Fort Worth, U.S.A. 2008
"The Gavin Blair Safari experience was exceptional from beginning to end. Marjorie's support with pre-trip planning and reservations was flawless. Gavin's encyclopaedic knowledge of the animals, birds, insects, reptiles and the flora of Southern Africa and his personable and gentle demeanour made both game drives and in-camp time exciting, educational and enjoyable. If Mother Nature has an alter ego, there can be no doubt that Gavin is that person! The set-up and management of campsites and the food provided by Marjorie was first class. Never once did I crave 'food from home'!! The lodge and hotel accommodations (including food) during the safari were also excellent and most enjoyable. I do hope to return for another African safari and there is no doubt whatsoever that Gavin Blair Safaris will be my operator of choice." .... Graham Smith, Memphis, U.S.A. 2008
"I had the usual great time with the two of you and look forward to next year. My heartfelt thanks for all you both have done for me." .... Alison Mastrangelo, Ossining, U.S.A. 2008 (after her twelfth safari with us)
"Thank you Gavin and Marjorie for another unforgettable safari. Being deep in the Kalahari with only the odd other vehicle sighted it seemed as if we had this magical place to ourselves. What with the fantastic animal sightings, starlit skies, wonderful and such knowledgeable company, what more could anyone want? Many thanks again for a wonderful safari, and we already can't wait for our next safari with you in 2009." ....Lynn & David Pickles, Bingley, England. 2008 (after their fifth safari with us)
2007
"I think of you often and the absolutely wonderful trip we had with you. We had a great time. What an experience. A life time of memories were made on our trip. We talk about it often and look through our picture portfolio on a regular basis. We would love to return again and spend another safari with you. Some day we will. I can now fully understand why so many of your customers keep coming back. The two of you were tremendous, gracious hosts and all of our accommodations were first rate. We thoroughly enjoyed Gavin's encyclopaedic like knowledge of the plants, animals and history of the areas we travelled. We came away with great appreciation of the beauty and uniqueness of Botswana. What a spectacular place. I was endlessly impressed by your ability to see the smallest objects from the greatest distances. I will be forever impressed with your ability to see the owl sitting at the top of a tree from 300 yards at night!" .... Kevin Schultz, Elm Grove, U.S.A. 2007
"Gavin's extensive knowledge of the natural wonders and history of the country, his enthusiasm for all fauna and flora, and his patience and ability to explain and convey information made the safari so much more meaningful for us. Marjorie took one aback for she not only kept Gavin sorted out, but also the camp and the food! She provided us with hearty, nutritious and inventive meals, organized from her camp kitchen. They are an energetic and seemingly tireless couple who continuously go the extra mile to ensure the well being of their guests." .... Alan & Anne Pickard, Omakau, New Zealand. 2007
"Beginning at dawn and ending at dusk, Gavin leads us from one scenario to another, and we witness the minute along with the biggest wonders of Africa. We watch the lioness and her cubs go to the river to drink. We climb onto the Land Cruiser's one-of-a-kind roof rack to get a better view of the hippos playing in the river. It's almost completely dark as we drive back to camp, but we take a detour to check out a den Gavin knows about, and we're in luck, the hyena cubs have come out. We are in a special place on earth, we are seeing it under special circumstances. Gavin Blair is more than a wonderful guide; he's a naturalist, a teacher and a storyteller. His experience and instincts get results. As we gaze at the leopard above us, he wonders "why did it look over there", and soon afterwards tells us "look, there's another leopard in the tree behind us!" He doesn't miss a thing. We're having a tea break and a lively conversation, when he glances over his shoulder and then announces "there goes a Honey Badger" and it trots by a few yards away. Gavin's talents in the bush have found the perfect complement in Marjorie's energy and efficiency. She sets up camp, cooks healthy meals and secures the best cabins in the lodges, dinner at the best restaurant in town, and the best table in the restaurant. The Blair's are an extremely hardworking, fun, intelligent and compassionate couple who have packaged a unique and wonderful experience in a land that they know and love." .... Mimi Pulich & Frances Thomas, Berkeley, U.S.A. 2007
"Our family would like to thank you both for a superb safari in Zambia and Botswana. Since Hana and I had travelled with you before we knew what to expect, but this was our two daughters' first safari and it was even more spectacular than they imagined. As a result of Gavin's extensive knowledge of Southern African flora, fauna, history and geology, he can make every moment interesting and informative. In addition, he is enthusiastic about his work and dedicated to making your safari memorable, even if he has to get you up early to do it. Lastly, he seems to have an uncanny knack of knowing where the animals are hanging out. We'll be back!" .... Ken Moyle, Beaverton, U.S.A. 2007 (after his second safari with us)
"Thank you Gavin, thank you Marjorie. Your safari was beyond expectations. The African wilderness, its open space and all the animals and birds you introduced us to were/are breathtaking. We will never forget these days." .... Christopher & Carla Saunders, San Francisco, U.S.A. 2007
"I would like to thank you again for our wonderful trip. It was one of my best holidays ever, definitely the best holiday in Africa. I will never forget this trip, everything was so good - interesting bush walks, wonderful moving and emotional days at Chimfushi, beautiful camps and no tourists - just perfect! We want to come back as soon as possible." .... Lisbeth Meyer, Zollikerberg, Switzerland. 2007
"I have recently returned from a Gavin Blair Safari in Botswana which was a hugely enriching experience. Other groups passed us on the road always looking for lions and stopping only a couple of minutes to watch the animals. We, however, were given a huge amount of information about the animals' behaviour and how they fitted into the landscape. Gavin is highly knowledgeable about the area and its denizens and has an amazing ability to spot something in an apparently empty landscape or to track animals on the move. The birds were something which took me by surprise as I never expected them to be so numerous or so varied. Gavin was immensely patient in ensuring that we had a good view of what had previously been invisible. The owls were a particular delight. The whole venture is supported by Marjorie working furiously in the camp. She is an absolute wonder with the camp fire and gave us an impressive variety of meals with all the healthy food boxes ticked. Thinking of all the planning required for this made me feel quite tired. All in all, an amazing and different experience - thank you." .... Brenda Claridge, Mount Wellington, New Zealand. 2007
"My wife and I, together with son and daughter-in-law, recently returned from a camping safari with the Blair's. We arrived in Botswana with very high expectations, and over the next two weeks they were repeatedly exceeded. Gavin's knowledge of Botswana's mammals, birds, reptiles and insects is encyclopaedic, and his ability to locate and identify them is magical. Gavin's willingness to share his knowledge, together with his enthusiasm, flexibility, and good humour, enriched each day of the safari and made it memorable. In short, Gavin is the best guide we have ever had. I can't imagine anyone else doing a better job." .... Morris Raker, Williamstown, U.S.A. 2007
"Six friends from Knoxville took off in April for a two week safari with Gavin and Marjorie Blair who had been recommended highly by a mutual friend. This was our first safari and we were not sure what to expect, but were totally overwhelmed by the trip and all agree it was the best trip we had taken. Gavin was an excellent guide and fabulous teacher, we saw so many animals and learned so much about them and the environment in which they live. We would highly recommend Gavin and Marjorie to anyone who wants to go on an adventure of their lifetime. We will all go back again!" .... The Knoxville Group, U.S.A. 2007
"My wife and I have once again enjoyed another safari with Gavin & Marjorie Blair - an involvement with African wildlife that is an experience second to none. Gavin is a guide par excellence, as anyone going on safari with him will soon discover - it may be said of him, along with the American Indian, that "...their only book was Nature and they knew its every page!" If there is a bird or animal to be seen, even small or elusive, it is astounding how Gavin will find and point such out. From the fascinating activity of a dung beetle to the following of a lioness providing an object lesson in the art of stalking, to a leopard out on an unsafe limb of a tree with the lioness below, then to see (after patiently waiting) that leopard suddenly race down the tree, cover several hundred yards within moments, and then up to a more stouter refuge was unforgettable! The same lioness had earlier scattered scores of wildebeest at a waterhole in one furious charge! To anyone reading this, if you are keen to go on a safari then go with Gavin Blair Safaris! ".... Bill Dunn, Welling, England (after his ninth safari with us) 2007
"We have just returned from a three week safari with Gavin and Marjorie Blair, our fifth such holiday in Africa and our third in Botswana. It was, without a doubt, the best wildlife experience we have had. What was most outstanding on the trip was the comfort both Marjorie and Gavin exhibited with the animals, from impala to leopard to tortoises to snakes. They show respect for the animals without unnecessary fear. This allowed us unsurpassed quiet viewing of the creatures of Botswana and their natural behaviour. As a guide, Gavin proved most knowledgeable, whether we were looking at mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, flowers or trees. He is enthusiastic in sharing his knowledge and expertise and in finding unusual or exciting examples of animal behaviour. A keen photographer himself, Gavin took a genuine interest in our photography. The vehicle worked well with camera equipment and Gavin always manoeuvred it with an eye to the picture. Marjorie is a wonderful camp cook! I was in awe of her cooking over an open fire, providing us with three course dinners each night. She took wonderful care of all our needs in camp, ably assisted by Gavin. Our camping experience was very comfortable. This was our first safari with the Blair's. We started receiving their newsletter on line some years ago and were always impressed by the sightings they had. We decided to go with them this year and are very glad we did. We hope to join them on another safari in a few years time." .... Mary Jane & Don Gutoski, Mossley, Canada. 2007
"Thanks for another fantastic safari. This was our fourth trip with you both and you never disappoint. Gavin is always up for a challenge , this time honey badgers and we saw them on five different occasions, brilliant! As usual the wildlife viewing was superb, and we were even lucky enough to see two white rhino. We'll definitely be back." .... Lynn & David Pickles, Bingley, England. 2007 (after their fourth safari with us)
"As usual I can't thank you enough for the wonderful time I had with you - it was so special.".... Alison Mastrangelo, Ossining, U.S.A. 2007 (after her eleventh safari with us)
2006
"Absolutely spectacular and wonderful! We were thrilled by the exciting sightings - nature and animals as well as by the excellent organisation and highly competent guidance and coaching during our Okavango Delta safari in September 2006. Following our first safari 7 years ago with mixed experiences with respect to local guides and after having briefly met Gavin in one of the camps with his group , who overwhelmingly praised his competence, we decided that if we should ever go back it had to be with Gavin. Luckily we were able to book with him for this past September and our very high expectations were even surpassed. His profound knowledge about the area and its species, his ability to track game and his pronounced capability to share his wisdom and fascination (best proof is his newsletters) turn every minute of his excursions into a highly exciting and never boring adventure. We also recognize that in such a rough and wild environment perfect logistics play an important role to comfort the guests - that's where Marjorie's great and extremely valuable contribution as chief administrator, organizer, correspondent and resource manager complements the treat. We had a great time together in a beautiful and exciting environment and hope we can repeat that in the future. In the meantime we will live off our wonderful memories supported by the many hours of video material we took back. It goes without much saying that we can highly recommend a journey with the “Gavin Blair Safaris Team” to all those genuinely interested in a very close wildlife experience as one would expect from an outstanding expert team. " ... Erika and Kurt Schoeb, Therwil, Switzerland. 2006
"Our tandem safaris in Botswana were fantastic. Gavin and Marjorie provided an experience far beyond our expectations. As a professional biologist specializing in mammals, I was allowed access to all mammals big and small. We brought to the trip a very restrictive dietary regimen which Marjorie handled in an amazing manner. We never had a repeat meal and they were all delicious. As an experienced manager of field camps, I was amazed at the organization and implementation of the field camps provided by Gavin and Marjorie. Gavin's depth of knowledge of the wildlife is impressive and his familiarity and ability to find animals is extraordinary. The love of the wildlife they exhibit, from the biggest most charismatic to the smallest organism, is genuine and refreshing. We had a previous African experience in 2001 in both Botswana and South Africa, which was memorable. However, our experience with Gavin and Marjorie was so far beyond that words are inadequate. We have just experienced a truly once in a lifetime trip." ….Michael & Theda O'Farrell, Las Vegas, U.S.A. 2006
"Thanks again for our great second safari - we can't imagine how it could have been better! We will be talking about our memories for a long time to come." ....Mike Garner, Danville, U.S.A. 2006 (after his second safari with us)
"I just reviewed with great pleasure the many pictures I took on the safari. It felt like experiencing the safari all over again, and as a result it urged me to write to you and thank you again for this incredible and wonderful experience. You were excellent hosts and a great team together. Both of you made this safari an unforgettable experience. I have been on many safaris before, but this one stands out. Gavin is an “African nature encyclopaedia” and his knowledge, enthusiasm and love for all aspects of nature catches everyone's attention. To observe Gavin finding animals is an experience of its own. He has his eyes, ears and even his nose wide open and all over: o n the ground, in the air, on trees, on the road and I suspect he can also see through rocks! In sum, the safari with you exceeded all my already high expectations and I felt privileged to have been able to share it with you!" ....Beat Pfenniger, Weggis, Switzerland. 2006
"Thank you both for a stupendous safari. The amount of work that goes into making everything so perfect is evident and, Marjorie, you are really admired by all us girls! We are very impressed with your organization and strength. Gavin, of course, is the only guide to choose to make a safari so fabulous. We had a wonderful time." .... Eliza Barnes, Windhoek, Namibia. 2006
"I wish there were words to describe how incredible our safari to Botswana and Namibia was with Gavin and Marjorie in June and July of 2006. We visited Botswana with a group arranged by a tour operator in 1994 and thought that trip couldn't be topped. After being with Gavin and Marjorie we realized how wrong we were! The sights, the smells, the sounds, and the Blair's infectious love for and understanding of the wildlife was an experience we will never forget! Gavin and Marjorie's years of experience are apparent and their enthusiasm contagious! They are the perfect team. Thank you for the "trip of a lifetime" and one we will be back to REPEAT!" .... Lynne & Michael Troitino, Orlando, U.S.A. 2006
"As far as we are concerned the "only" way to visit and explore the African bush is with Gavin Blair Safaris. Gavin is a walking encyclopaedia of information regarding the animals, the birds, the plants and the terrain, and he loves sharing his knowledge and love of all with his guests. Gavin thinks like the animals! He knows where to find them, where they will go, and when. It is amazing to be with him and see his animal instincts take over. He can spot an elephant shrew from 200 yards while rapidly driving one-handed down a bumpy twisting single-track road while explaining the mating rituals of Peter's Epauletted Fruit Bat, and never spill a drop of his ever present mug of tea. We miss you, Gavin!
In addition, Gavin's knowledge and interest in photographing all that he loves in Africa is a boon to the guest, as Gavin always positions the vehicle to capture the photo of the animals in the best light and composition available - for this we were constantly grateful. And Marjorie's bright smile, cheerful attitude and, particularly, her delicious safari meals are indeed missed. We will return for another safari with Gavin and Marjorie and that is a fact!" .... Bob & Sherri Hill, Orlando, U.S.A. 2006
"What a wonderful trip we had. We thank you both so much. When anyone asks us about our visit to Africa we launch into a lengthy series of stories. We are singing your praises all over town. We had a vacation of a lifetime." .... Ed Russell, Westerly, U.S.A. 2006
"Thanks for a memorable holiday. We thoroughly enjoyed Gavin's vast expertise in spotting and explaining so much about the environment, and Marjorie's catering for our needs and organising and administering operations." .... Peter & Chris Longley, Carmel, Western Australia. 2006. (after their second safari with us)
"I had told Elsje, my niece, everything about my previous camping safaris in Botswana with Gavin Blair Safaris, and had boasted about how Gavin knows practically everything there is to know about wildlife: how to interpret footprints, the calls of birds and other animals, broken twigs and how he can identify every bird. Needless to say Els was duly impressed by Gavin's knowledge on every aspect of nature. I had told her she would be spoiled for the rest of her life and would never be satisfied again by a guide less knowledgeable than Gavin - to that she agreed wholeheartedly." ....Ans Thurkow, Ellecom, The Netherlands. 2006 (after her third safari with us)
"It was fantastico!!!" .... Antonio Raventos, Barcelona, Spain. 2006
"We had a wonderful safari with Gavin and Marjorie to the Kalahari. It was our second visit and so different as this year it had really rained: the grass was long and lush and every animal and bird seemed to have bred in abundance from the 15 guinea fowl chicks to the cheetah with 5 cubs who we watched for hours. Gavin's enthusiasm and knowledge is boundless and many of our game drives lasted for up to 7 hours - never a dull moment! We returned to Marjorie at camp where excellent food was waiting for us plus hot water - all the luxuries we needed. We also much appreciated the nights in between at lodges. This is the perfect safari for two people - we hardly saw another car and felt we had the whole Kalahari to ourselves." .... Sarah Bury, Craven Arms, England. 2006.
"I had such a good time with you guys as usual." .... Alison Mastrangelo, Ossining, U.S.A. 2006 (after her tenth safari with us)
"Thank you for the wonderful holiday we have had and for opening up the exciting world of the African bush for us. We have never been on a trip where absolutely everything was taken care of so perfectly and where we have felt so welcomed. We feel truly privileged to have learned so much about the animals, the countries and the people." .... Owen Lomas, Saffron Walden, England. 2006
2005
"My safari with Gavin and Marjorie in October 2005 re-visited areas that I had grown to love in the early 1990s. Travelling with the Blair's recaptured the very best of Botswana in those times. It was the perfect way to see these places again, especially Savuti and its wonderful elephants. The breadth of Gavin's knowledge is amazing - animals, birds, vegetation, insects, geology ...... - and the vehicle is perfect for game viewing, photography and travel. Marjorie is awe inspiring - chef, administrator, driver, mechanic as well as pitching and breaking camp and looking after the various needs of her guests. Who needs sundowners when you can have sunset breathtakingly close to a huge bull elephant or sitting in your vehicle surrounded by curious wild dog pups. Big thanks to the Blair's for the best time ever." .... Rebecca Over, Ash Vale, England. 2005.
"Camping out in romantic surroundings in the middle of wildlife was a treat, every second of it! Miracles were performed at the campfire by Marjorie preparing dinners served in a gourmet style. Gavin's keen eye and expert knowledge brought us a tremendous amount of unforgettable experiences. Needless to say we learned a lot. We've got a lot to tell our friends and we will relive all of it over and over again, until we get restless and join this wonderful team again." .... Charlotte and Hans Beiler, The Hague, The Netherlands. 2005
"Tracking and finding the "big game" is always exciting, but there is so much more to the African experience. It is the sights, sounds and smells, coupled with Gavin and Marjorie's boundless energy and enthusiasm for the wildlife and the land they live in, that makes a Gavin Blair Safari extraordinary. We met Gavin 15 years ago and on each of our 7 safaris he has shared with us his wealth of knowledge and given us some of our most treasured memories. We have been privileged visitors in a "magical wonderland"."....Garry and Bettejane Osborn, Littleton, U.S.A. 2005. (after their 7th safari with us)
"We are so pleased we chose Gavin Blair Safaris for our trip to Botswana. Gavin is a superb guide, passionate naturalist and excels in passing on his knowledge of fauna and flora to his guests. Marjorie is simply magnificent, setting up comfortable camps and tempting us with gourmet meals. They make a perfect team and we had a perfect safari." .... Sue & Bob English, Brisbane, Australia. 2005
"We have just returned from our first African adventure with Gavin and Marjorie , and cannot really find the right superlatives to describe our experiences. The wilds of Botswana and Gavin Blair Safaris have spoilt us forever with the incredible experiences that they have both shared with us, having shown us the real Africa before it changes irreparably. We have come home with a different appreciation of nature, especially the birds, and we cannot wait to do some more exploring. We will start planning our next visit very soon." .... Geoff & Lee Cleghorn, Brisbane, Australia. 2005
"Three of us including our 11 year old granddaughter had a wonderful African experience. Young Ruby still remembers her moments of terror with huge and undiminished pleasure - of course we knew that there was no real basis for her fears, but her experience is one she will remember when Gavin, Marjorie and ourselves are in the ground. We had a memorable safari" ... Manfred & Irene Lubowitz, Greenwich, England. 2005
"Our safari with you was, as expected, exceptional" ... Monica Petrauschke, Hofheim-Langenhain, Germany. 2005
(after her second safari with us)
"We tell someone each day about our amazing trip. I have told everyone that you took us everywhere and had us up at 4:30am and were still going strong about the stars at 9 that night. It was a combination of botany and biology at the 500 level in college (graduate school in the states). For people who know me here as very conservative it is very good to now be seen as somewhat of an adventuress!" ....Candy & Brewton Brownlow, Knoxville, U.S.A. 2005
"Thank you for an absolutely spectacular adventure. We have been telling all our friends and co-workers about our trip and highly recommend you without reservation. Both of you were so accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks again for a trip of a lifetime!" .... Barbara Chen & Rod Kieft, Anchorage, U.S.A. 2005
"My wife and I have not long returned from another camping safari with Gavin and Marjorie Blair. The experience re-confirms that Gavin is a guide second to none!It was said of the American plains Indian that: "their only book was nature and they knew its every page" - so it is with Gavin. If there is an animal to be found he will find it, if there is a bird to be seen he will spot it (253 birds identified on this safari)! Our interest in wildlife spreads from the Elephant to the Insect and Gavin's knowledge covers it all. With the bonus of the camp care provided by Marjorie, you cannot make a better safari choice than to go with Gavin Blair Safaris!" .... Bill Dunn, Welling, England. 2005 (after his seventh safari with us)
"Gavin is the best safari guide we've had during our 3 extended tours of Africa. He is very knowledgeable about the animals and plants in the region and was enthusiastic about sharing his expertise with us. Gavin is an avid photographer, so he understood what we needed to take some memorable photos. Our camps in the Nxai and central Kalahari parks were remote, but made very comfortable by Marjorie and Gavin. As a bonus, they are pleasant and engaging people to talk to after the day's viewing is done." .... Ken and Hana Moyle, Portland, OR, USA
"I loved being with you guys as usual, and can't wait until next year." .... Alison Mastrangelo, Ossining, U.S.A. (after her ninth safari with us)
"Thank you once more for another wonderful week in Savuti. Wehad asuperb time" ....Rafael Cerezo, Madrid, Spain. 2005 (after his eleventh safari with us)
2004
"The walking was thoroughly rewarding, being able to go wherevehicles cannot. Fascinating to watch Gavin read the signs and sounds of the bush, also hisskill at knowing our exact whereabouts even when in thick bush or dense woodland. The safari lived up to all expectations and more besides." .... Lynn & David Pickles, Bingley, England. 2004 (after their third safari with us)
"I can't begin to thank you enough for the fabulous adventure you treated us to on our safari. We will always treasure it. You were great to be with and made everything special and enjoyable." .... Mike Garner, Danville, U.S.A. 2004
"We couldn't have had a better introduction to Africa than our two weeks with Gavin and Marjoriein Botswana. Going on safari with Gavin is a great privilege - his knowledge of the wildlife, the birds, the plants and the natural world is unsurpassed and he combines it with passionate enthusiasm. He is a truly great guide to the wonders of the African bush. No doubt Gavin could have taught us to live off the land for the fortnight - a root here, a bit of bark there (in fact, he did encourage us to sample the delights of a nut that had already passed through an elephant). Fortunately, Marjorie was on hand to make the most delicious meals - she is a talented cook and a charming host. She made our camping trip both comfortable and enjoyable. Together, Gavin and Marjorie make a great team and we had a great time with them. Thank you." .... Kevin Cox, Bristol, England. 2004
"Twelve of us went to the Chobe National Park with Gavin Blair Safaris. It was a wonderful experience thanks to Gavin's knowledge andlove of all things big and small. In between sightings ofanimals we learned so much. His enthusiasm was contagious. "I must tell you what wonderful days they were in the bush. You two were fabulous, to care for us all, meeting our every need and providing such delightful meals. We wondered how you could do all that for so many. It was like you provided miracles. The journeys into the wilderness and natural environment for nature opened our eyes to the many ways you could read who and what had been there before us in the sand. Thank you for a wonderful experience." Jeanne Booth, Venice, U.S.A. 2004 (one of twelve with "Singles on the Go")
"Had a great time with our group. Have been on other safaris but have never met anyone as knowledgeable as Gavin. Marjorie did a great job cooking and we had a lot of fun. " Betty Evans , Venice, U.S.A. 2004

2003
"This safari will be the highlight for my four grandchildren
and my son for the rest of their lives. Gavin's presentation on
the animals, birds, reptiles, topography, current politics of
Botswana and Zimbabwe and the history of the area was absolutely
outstanding. I was amazed that Gavin kept the topics on a level
that was interesting to me at 65 years of age as well as to the
children aged 10 to 15. The grandchildren didn't want to leave
and were sad when the safari ended. I have travelled extensively
throughout the world and this had to be the absolute best vacation
I have ever taken thanks to you and Gavin. A great time was had
by all." .... Bill Long, Boise, USA. 2003
"I thank you with all my heart for
the wonderful safaris I have spent with you. Gavin has taught
me so many things about the animals and the bush. Thanks to you
also Marjorie for having perfectly organized these many safaris."
.... Lily Servaes, Brussels, Belgium. 2003 (after her fourth safari
with us)
"I wanted to thank both of you once more for the fantastic
two weeks in Botswana. I have lost count of the number of times
I have been with you, but everyone of them is special, and somehow
you manage to make the last one always more special than the previous.
Thank you both for taking such good care of us." .... Rafael
Cerezo, Madrid, Spain. 2003 (after his eighth safari with us)
"Sitting on a termite mound in the
early morning on the Khwai river I could see tsessebe, zebra and
impala grazing 200 meters away while an African fish eagle glided
in the sky. The animals in the background, the colours of the
grass, the silence, the rising sun made me feel transported to
an age when man was not on earth, and it was a marvellous but
impossible to describe feeling. Thank you Marjorie and Gavin for
an unforgettable experience"... Ramon Cerezo, Alicante, Spain.
2003 (after his fourth safari with us)
"Gavin and Marjorie are such an amazing team. Gavin possesses
an unbelievable amount of knowledge of the natural world, from
insects to birds to grasses to trees to the largest of mammals.
His enthusiasm and good spirits are constantly contagious, as
is his supreme knowledge of where to look or go or be in order
to see the most amazing animal interchanges. I could go on and
on....but our almost 3 week camping safari was literally like
being inside a National Geographic movie, except better! Marjorie
is as efficient, talented, organized and capable a person as I
have ever met. She is non stop! She anticipates and thinks of
everything. Whether it is cooking a gourmet meal out in the bush
over the fire, setting up the very comfortable and large camp,
driving across desert sands towing the gear wagon to get ready
for our later arrival, or incongruously crouching amongst the
acacias and hippos searching for a satellite signal so she can
get online to do her office work and correspondence for future
safaris, Marjorie takes care of every detail and thereby frees
up Gavin to be the best guide in Africa. Their relationship is
warm and close and uplifting to observe. They are professionals
in every sense of the word and we felt and still feel so very
fortunate to have had this experience with two such remarkable
people. I highly recommend Gavin Blair Safaris." ... Lynn
and Edgar Faust, Knoxville, U.S.A. 2003
"On a scale of one to ten our safari
was a twenty. Gavin and Marjorie were the perfect hosts both professionally
and socially. It could not have been more perfect, we both loved
it" ... Ron and Heather Fone, Sherbourn, U.S.A. 2003
"We came home with many wonderful memories of Namibia and
are extremely glad that we took the trip. Your knowledge of wildlife
is encyclopaedic." ... Keith and Pat Klarin, Palm City, U.S.A.
2003
(after their second safari with us)
"We spent twelve days with the Blair's
in March of this year. The trip was arranged by friends and we
were going along with not much knowledge but excitment at seeing
Africa for the first time. And what we discovered was far beyond
any expectations! We had heard that Africa can penetrate one's
soul...it did just that. We were blown away by the beauty, the
animals and especially the birds, and the hospitality of Gavin
& Marjorie Blair. To have creme brule in the bush is never
to be forgotten. It is certain that we will return"... Tad
and Cindy Piper, Minneapolis, U.S.A. 2003
"We all had a great time. Louis continues to mention things
and really took on board the information that Gavin dished out.
Louis received a certificate of merit on his last day of school.
It was awarded for his "extensive knowledge of African animals!"
"... Laura Hazell, Sutton Courtenay, England 2003 (writing
about her 4 year old son shortly after their safari).
"Looking forward to 2004. Can't wait
to be back in the bush with you both" ... Alison Mastrangelo,
Ossining, U.S.A. 2003 (after her seventh safari with us and her
eight already booked)
"Gavin Blair Safaris is a very personal way to experience
wildlife in Africa. We have just completed a camping safari in
Botswana and the experience exceeded our expectations. Gavin and
Marjorie compliment one another's skills, providing a blend of
wildlife expertise and gracious hospitality. We would wholeheartedly
recommend Gavin and Marjorie Blair to persons who seek an experience
that involves all of the senses, the opportunity to learn and
appreciate all aspects of wildlife and ecology, and who wish to
share this experience with a charming, intelligent and experienced
couple" ... Polly and Bob McCrea, Long Lake, U.S.A. 2003
"Gavin and Marjorie make a great team
and we felt blessed to have found our way to their safari. No
wonder they have so many repeat clients! Gavin is an extraordinary
naturalist, exquisitely attuned to the animals, the birds and
the natural environment. We can't imagine there is a finer guide
anywhere in Africa. Marjorie won our hearts with her fantastic
salads, three course dinners, crème caramel and other amazing
desserts cooked over the campfire. We were well cared for and
enjoyed every moment of our time with Gavin Blair Safaris."
.... Penny and Bill George, Minneapolis, U.S.A. 2003
"As usual we had a wonderful time. Gavin continues after
all these years to impress with his knowledge, common sense and
sense of fun" .... Rafael Cerezo, Madrid, Spain (after his seventh
safari with us) 2003
2002
"Thank you both so much for a wonderful
two weeks on safari in Botswana. We enjoyed the trip immensely
- the wildlife, the countryside, the weather, the food, the eclipse,
the campsites and more than that because of your company, knowledge
and the special atmosphere you created throughout the journey.
And of course it was enormously satisfying to have been in the
best wildlife viewing vehicle, the most exclusive and beautiful
campsites, and to have been out looking at things for twice as
long as everyone else. Thanks for a wonderful time." ....
Cathy Dean and Kenneth Donaldson, London, England. 2002.
"It is difficult to describe adequately the depth
and breadth of Gavin's knowledge of all things African, or his
enthusiasm for imparting his knowledge. He missed nothing and
every game drive was packed with fascinating information. He is
obviously a well known and much respected figure in the area and
we felt immensely fortunate and privileged to have him as our
guide. Marjorie's organisational and culinary skills, Gavin's
knowledge and the tireless energy and enthusiasm of them both,
added to the wonders of Botswana and you have the recipe for a
hugely exciting, informative and enjoyable safari. Thank you!
Thank you! Thank you!" ... Doreen and Alan Melbourne, Hartley
Wintney, England. 2002
"Thank you both very much for giving us a truly memorable
holiday - the best by a distance we have ever had. Your knowledge
was staggering - 'and still they stared, and still the wonder
grew, that one small head could carry all he knew' - but was still
shared in a way that was comprehensible to the uninitiated. We
felt you both wanted us to enjoy ourselves, and nothing was too
much trouble to ensure that we did. We are truly grateful to you
both." .... Ken & Catherine Beresford, Birmingham, England.
2002
"I just wanted to say a huge thank you for being such
charming hosts during our recent visit. With Gavin's incomparable
knowledge of the bush, infectious enthusisam and attention to
detail, and Marjorie's gracious company and great cooking, you
captivated the group. A winning combination." ... Sophie
Stafford, Shoreham-by-sea, England. 2002
"And yet another incredible African adventure with Gavin
and Marjorie - this time it was Namibia, a land of spectacular
vistas and rare wildlife. We actually hugged a Cape Fur Seal and
were treated to our first sightings of Black Rhino, Eland and
the lovely little Dik-Dik. Marjorie and Gavin love what they do
and it is evident in their endless patience and constant good
humor. Till the next time." ... Garry and Bettejane Osborn,
Stamford, U.S.A. 2002

for an unforgettable experience. The incredible knowledge about
African nature that you, Gavin, let us participate in every single
day was amazing. And serving three course dinners in the wild,
vegan and regular, was beyond imagination. Again thanks for everything."
.... Dieter Heuskel, Ratingen, Germany. 2002
"I must send you both our thanks for
a truly unforgettable holiday. You made our safari a very unique
special experience: the animals were wonderful, the scenery spectacular,
camping was great fun and Marjorie's food was absolutely delicious.
The breadth of wildlife which we experienced was truly magnificent,
and we felt as though we had been living in a wildlife movie."

wonderful memories of Africa - and you two made it.".....Mae
Contos, Duluth, USA. 2000
"Nothing could be compared to our wonderful
time with you. You are a wonderful team and everything was just
perfection. The game drives and the gourmet meals, and the whole
ambiance made it all seem kind of magical and serendipitous. Your
love of the bush bought it all alive for everyone of us. Gavin,
