Central Kalahari
Safari - 8 days |
|
| |
Day 1

Arrive Maun, Botswana where we will meet you and immediately
depart for the Nxai Pan National Park. This National Park
consists of a series of fossil pans that are covered in short
grasses. The area is home to elephant, giraffe, kudu, gemsbok,
springbok, zebra and wildebeest, and also to many predators
such as jackals, honey badgers, bat-eared foxes, cheetah,
leopard, lion and hyena. We will base from our own remote
campsite for three nights.
|
| |
Days 2 and 3

Full days' wildlife viewing in the Nxai Pan National Park,
with the days typically ending watching the sunset at the
waterhole. On one of the mornings we will take a small diversion
to visit the famous group of trees known as “Baine’s
Baobabs”. This is an intriguing area and has something
of a moonscape appearance.
|
| |
Day 4

After a last early morning wildlife viewing we will leave
the Nxai Pan National Park and will head towards the Makgadikgadi
Pan Game Reserve. Our destination will be Makgadikgadi Lodge
where we will aim to arrive in time for a late lunch and where
we will also overnight. The Makgadikgadi is one of Botswana’s
least visited Game Reserves as there is limited infrastructure.
However, it is home to large herds of zebra, wildebeest and
elephant as well as various predators that move around within
the Game Reserve depending on the availability of water at
the various sources. After dinner we will go on a night drive
where there will be a good chance of seeing some of the nocturnal
wildlife of the area such as leopard, porcupine and springhare,
and maybe even a hippo out feeding.
|
| |
Day 5

Our morning wildlife viewing will continue to the Deception
Valley area of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This is
the most beautiful part of the Reserve and we will camp in
another of our exclusive campsites in the area where the writers
of the book "Cry of the Kalahari" were based. At
sunset enjoy the chorus of hundreds of barking geckos. The
brown hyena is an occasional camp visitor at night.
|
| |
Days 6 and 7

Full days' wildlife viewing in the Deception Valley area of
the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Springbok, gemsbok, jackal,
cape fox and ground squirrels are in abundance, and there
will be the chance of seeing leopard, lion, cheetah, African
wildcat, honey badgers and suricates (meerkats).
|
| |
Day 8
Our last full morning wildlife viewing before leaving the
Central Kalahari Game Reserve from where we will return to
Maun, arriving in plenty of time for your onward connections.
|
| Our
mobile camp is a fully serviced camp with comfortable 3m x
3m walk-in dome tents that are insect-proof and furnished
with camp beds, mattresses, duvets, pillows and a few other
items for your personal comfort. Washstands, toilets and hot
showers are also provided. Our camp can be thought of as a
scaled-down version of a permanent tented camp but without
losing any of the standards and comforts. Quality, freshly
prepared meals of a high standard fit around the game-driving
schedule, so as not to be a detriment to possible wildlife
viewing experiences and opportunities. You will have exclusive
use of our specialized open safari vehicle, which is designed
for maximum wildlife viewing and comfort, and is ideal if
you are interested in photography. This enables us to concentrate
on your special interests.
The exclusive campsites that we use are for the use of members
of HATAB (Hotel and Tourism Association of Botswana) only,
and only one company is allowed in each site at any one time.
This means that only your group and ourselves will be in the
sites reserved so enabling us to give you a totally exclusive
safari. All sites are set within the prime wildlife areas
of the National Parks and Game Reserves, and are set away
from the public campsites and the permanent camps and lodges.
There are no fences and so the animals can wander freely through
the camp.
The safari will be exclusive to you, your
family and any friends you choose to accompany you. Prices
are fully inclusive of all accommodation, park fees, transfers,
activities, food and drinks (except at Makgadikgadi Lodge
where drinks are not included). International and internal
scheduled domestic flights are not included. The vehicle used
will be for your exclusive use for the entire safari and Gavin
will be your personal guide throughout.
